Billie "Sue" Dickens, 83, of Arnett, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, while in Hospice care. She was born on May 29, 1940, to Sadie and Albert "Thurman" Wood in Slab Fork, WV. Sue is survived by her daughter, Tammy Gobble; grandchildren, Stacy Bartley (Steve Bartley), Jordan Gobble (Adam Day), Cory Ford, and Jenna Ford; great-grandchildren, Ashton Meadows, Emily Bartley, Taytum Meadows, Ava Hudson, Trinity Gill, and Penelope and Isaac Ford; brother, Thurman Wood Jr (Judy Wood); sister, Becky Jo Wood-Perrine (Bob Perrine); close friends, Melva Jean Walker, Pat Worley, and Alice Farley-Holt; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dickens; parents, Sadie and Thurman Wood; sister, Mary "Chink" Carter; daughter, Tina Ford; and dog, Tequila. Sue graduated from Trap Hill High School, where she was a majorette, in 1958. She began her career as a secretary for Civil Service at the Naval Yard in Washington DC. Sue worked as a teachers' aide at Mount View Elementary and was an employee of Warren Jarrell's Grocery. She enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach with her husband and friends - Charlie and Carol Jarrell, Phyllis and Carl Bawgus, and Gary and Bonnie Tabor, watching WVU basketball, and attending her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's extracurricular activities. Graveside services will be Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2:00p.m. at Miller Cemetery, Rock Creek, WV, with Pastor Larry Kinder officiating. Pallbearers will be: Andrew Dickens, Jarrod Dickens, Michael Dickens, Jackson Dickens, Lance Dillon, and Mike Watson. Sue’s family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Beckley.
