Billy Miller Obituary

Billy Wayne Miller, 71, of Seth, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2024, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Bill was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia to Jesse and Freda Miller on August 3, 1952.  He graduated from Sherman High School in 1970 where he played football, basketball, and baseball, and was a member of the Varsity Club. He earned special honorable mention all-state in football. He went on to pursue a physical education and health teaching degree at Marshall University, where he graduated in 1974.  He then went on to receive a Masters Degree in Education.  Once finished with school, Bill dedicated 36 years to Boone County Schools at both Whitesville Junior High and Sherman Junior High, touching the lives of countless students that entered his gymnasium doors. As well as teaching, Bill dedicated an insurmountable amount of time by coaching hundreds of students in various sports. Taking over the head coaching position in baseball at Sherman in 1988, Bill went on to lead the team to a state runner up title in 1990 as well as six sectional championships and one regional championship.  Bill devoted most of his career serving as the Head Football Coach of Sherman High School for 20 years, gaining the title of the winningest Head Football Coach in school history as well as leading the football team to six playoff appearances. However, it wasn't just on the field Bill led those boys and was often referred to as a mentor off the field as well. Once retired, Bill moved south to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his family.  He began working at the Grande Dunes Members Club for eight years serving as a starter.  Realizing the love he had for sports, quickly had him becoming a proud supporter of Coastal Carolina University's football, basketball, and baseball programs. A very devout Christian, Bill was a member of the Freemason's, Shriners’ as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Healing Stream Baptist Church.  Once moved, Bill became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bill is preceded in death by his soulmate of 32 years, Joan Banks Miller; parents Jesse Ray and Freda Mae Miller; and father and mother-in-law Calvin Coolidge and Serreda Mae Banks. Bill is survived by his twin daughters Nadia Mugnolo and Nevada Didonato whom were his pride and joy; granddaughter Arizona Didonato whom was his absolute best friend; sons-in-law Aaron Mugnolo and Nathan Didonato; brother James “Butch” Miller and his wife Betsy Miller, his Uncle and Aunt Joe and Carol Pettry; countless of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his sidekick Miss Daisy, all of whom he loved so much.
