Curtis Ray Jarrell
July 16, 1946 – October 7, 2025
Curtis Ray Jarrell, 79, of Fairdale, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, following a short illness. Born July 16, 1946, in Edwight, WV, and raised in Stickney, WV, Curt was one of twelve children of the late Earl and Norma (Clay) Jarrell, a close-knit family known for their faith, work ethic, and deep Appalachian roots. He carried those values throughout his life. A lifelong coal miner, Curt represented the strength and humility of West Virginia’s hardworking men. Away from the mines, he found joy and peace outdoors—an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the simple blessings of God’s creation. Curt was a faithful attendee of several local churches, including Arnett Chapel and Dameron Church, where he was known for his steadfast faith, kindness, and quiet generosity. He lived by principle—always doing what was right. Family often said that if he had been rich, he would be poor again as he would have given it all away. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Norma Jarrell; siblings Ricky, Jody, Teddy, Sally Webb, Annette Blair, Gary “By God” Wayne Jarrell, and Charlotte Ann Jarrell; and brother-in-law Bill Spencer. He is survived by his loving daughter Mary Williams (NC) and son Joey Williams (WV); grandchildren Donovan, Dakota, Jacob, Mayli, and Violet. He is also survived by brothers Jerry (Mary) Jarrell and Ralph (Glenna) Jarrell, and sisters Brenda Spencer and Teresa Vipperman along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. Curt leaves behind a legacy of faith, humility, and integrity. He loved the Lord deeply and looked forward to being reunited with his family who went before him. Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate the peace he has found in the arms of our Savior. We will see them both soon one day. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, at 2:00 in the Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, WV with Rev. Ronnie Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Miller Cemetery Rock Creek, WV. The visitation will be one hour before the service.
