Dewey Irvin Boggess, of Surveyor WV, also known as Bud, a kind and gentle soul, passed away September 9, 2025 at the age of 89. Dewey was born March 2nd, 1936 in Sundial, WV. Known for his tender heart and quiet strength, Dewey touched many lives with the simple joys he cherished most. Dewey’s heart carried many losses over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Sarah Boggess; his sons, Bobby Joe and Jimmy John and a daughter Anna Marie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Woodrow Lee Boggess "Woody", his sisters, Sadie Mae Boggess, Sylvia Ann Boggess, Joann Marshall, and Carol Sue Clark, his nephews: Buddy Boggess and Cameron David Hall; and niece: Renee Marie Willer. He missed them all dearly, especially his children, and now we take comfort knowing he is reunited with them. Loved ones who will remember him always include his brothers; Jessie (companion, Sherri) of Dry Creek, WV, Kenneth and Johnny (Debbie) all of Naoma, WV. his sisters; Maggie (James) Oiler of Thurmond, Ohio, and Bessie (Bobby) Webb of Naoma. Nieces; Sadie (Garry) Dickens, Teresa Boggess (Damon), Sarah Faye Boggess, Anna Hager, Rosanne Willer, Emily (Craig) Woods, Deidra (Jamey) Lee, Elizabeth (Randall) Watkins, Jennifer (Timothy) McBride, Melanie Boggess, Leigh Ann Webb (Josh). Nephews; Jessie Boggess II, Joseph "Joey" Willer, and Bobby Webb Jr (Michelle); Grandson, Brandon Miller and granddaughter Kieara Boggess. Dewey also had special friends who became family to him — Lee Scarberry and Donna Workman — their love and friendship meant the world to him. Dewey had a gift for making people laugh with his funny stories and jokes. He had a special love for babies, always lighting up at the sight of little ones and sharing in their laughter and innocence. A man of many talents, Dewey enjoyed spending time in his garden, tending to the earth with patience and care, and filling the air with music from his beloved mandolin and other instruments he loved to play. Dewey served his country proudly in the US Army, he worked with pride and strength at the sawmill, and then in the coal mines. He dedicated himself to honest labor that reflected his strong work ethic and resilience. Above all, Dewey’s greatest love was for his family. He held his three children close to his heart, and after their passing, he carried the weight of that loss every day. His love for them never faded, and his strength in the face of such sorrow was a testament to his enduring spirit. Dewey will be remembered for his warmth, his music, his stories, and the quiet way he showed love to those around him. He leaves behind family and friends who will forever treasure his memory. May he rest in peace, reunited with the children and family he loved so dearly. The kindness and compassion shown to him during his time there will always be remembered. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 14,2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, WV with Jim Oiler speaking and The Stewart Family singing. Interment will follow in the Don Jarrell Cemetery Dry Creek, WV. The visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the funeral home.
