Doris Lee “Jim” Marshall was born on November 13, 1935, and began his adventure of life, that ended on February 7, 2025, when he gained his golden wings and flew to heaven to reunite with those who had gone on before. Jim was born in Edwight, WV to Doris Creed Marshall and Novie Ethel Webb Marshall and spend his childhood years on Coal River. After World War II his family settled in Rock Creek, WV, where his family homestead remains. Jim graduated from Marsh Fork High School and then went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University. He continued his education throughout his lifetime, earning a Master’s Degree from Oberlin College, a PhD from Michigan State University and a JD from The Detroit College of Law. Jim spent his employment career as an educator, educating his family, his friends, his students, and himself for as long as he was able. He also remained a faithful follower of WVU football and attended many games throughout his lifetime. Jim was also a world traveler, having visited numerous locations in the United States, South America, China, Europe and Africa. While in Italy, he and his companion were given front row seats to a Mass presided over by Pope John Paul. During his travels he made many lifelong friendships around the world. After graduating from WVU, Jim married Gloria Fay (Dody)Harris. Together they had three daughters: Rachel Ann Marshall Hatfield, Doris (Jim) Marshall Krier and Martha Marshall Marsee. He was blessed with six wonderful grandchildren, Hollee (Aaron) Robbins Shau, Elizabeth (Carlos) Robbins Walker, Wheeler Thomas Marsee, Genia Marsee, James Donald (JD) Krier and Kristen Krier. He was then doubly blessed with seven great grandchildren, Brooke Griffith, Justin Butterworth, Connor Walker, Hudson Walker, Christopher Schau, Eric Shau and Dakota Shau and then triple blessed with three great, great grandchildren Waylon Shau, Riverlynn Butterworth and Saquoia Butterworth. Jim also had many friends that he kept close to his heart. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Novie Marshall and by his friend and former wife Gloria Marshall Pratt. Jim was a kind and caring man who was loved unconditionally by his family and his closest friends. But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. The family of Jim Marshall will welcome friends and family on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 6P- 9P at Armstrong Funeral Home. On Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 12 PM, a Celebration of Live will then take place at Rebecca Chappel in Rock Creek, WV with Lonnie Burnside speaking. The burial will follow in Miller Cemetery.
