Dorothy Jo Washington July 30th, 1973-January 6th, 2024
Dorothy Jo “DJ” Washington of Whitesville, West Virginia passed away unexpectedly on January 6th, 2024. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia to George Carlos Washington and Dorothy Geneva Washington. Dorothy Jo attended Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College and Marshall University and devoted her life to helping others through Nursing in West Virginia and Ohio. DJ led a life that truly epitomized a willingness to give the shirt off her back for anyone in need, especially children. DJ never met a person she didn’t try to help in some way. Preceding her in death was her father, George C. Washington, paternal grandparents George H. & Blanch E. (Garten) Washington and maternal grandparents Sidney B. & Sylvia V. (Beverly) Williams. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy G. Washington of Whitesville, West Virginia and three loving sisters Nova Jo Cooper-Bates (Dexter) of Whitesville, WV, Carla Jo Beamesderfer (Brett) of Kempner, Texas, and Nina Jo Washington of Whitesville, WV. DJ is also survived by her nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved like her own and was incredibly proud of: Matthew Cooper (James) of Columbus, Ohio, Jocelynn Cooper-Vaughn(Zach) of Great Falls, Montana, Holly White (Hadley) of Friona, Texas, Sydney Washington of Whitesville, West Virginia, Anna Beamesderfer of Kempner, Texas, Sean “Bubba” Beamesderfer at home, and one great-nephew Cooper White at home. At DJ’s direction, there will be no services. Her wish was for cremation only. For those wishing to honor Dorothy Jo’s memory, the family asks you to embrace her kindness and spirit of giving in your own lives.
