Eleanor Cantley Obituary

In Loving Memory of Eleanor "Lucy" Louise Pettry Cantley
July 4, 1937 – April 25, 2025
Eleanor Louise Pettry Cantley, fondly known as "Lucy," passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, entering the arms of her Lord and Savior. Born on July 4, 1937, in Naoma, West Virginia, Lucy was a firecracker of love and laughter from the very beginning. She was the daughter of Grady and Brady Jarrell Pettry and the last surviving sibling of eleven. Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her brothers Ross, Kenny, Albert, Charlie, and twin baby boys; and her dear sisters Cassie, Polly, Phyllis, and Emma Jean, who were not only her sisters but her lifelong best friends. She now rejoins her cherished husband of 46 years, Leonard Ray Cantley, and their beloved children Leonard Ray “Sam” Cantley II, James Leftridge “Elfie” Cantley, and Yvette “Beanie” Rich. Her legacy lives on in those who survive her: her daughters Sherry (Alan) Workman, Ginger Hall and companion John Bickford, and Crystal (Jimmy) Naylor, with whom she made her home in her final days. Lucy’s love echoed through generations—she was the proud grandmother of Olivia (Travis), Toni Lee (Brandon), Tony (Holli), Sheila (Brian), Robert
(Miranda), David, Jamie (Jessica), Danny (Brianna), Emily (Thatcher), Joshua (Tina), Lacie (Jake), Devin (Kaylee), Daphnie, Brooklyn, Maddison, Lilly, and Ahaiden. She was also blessed with 31 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Lucy will be remembered for her sharp sense of humor, her mischievous spirit, and her unmatched ability to make a home feel full of warmth, laughter, and the smell of fresh bread. Her door was always open, her table always full, and her heart always giving. A joint service celebrating the lives of Lucy and her daughter Yvette will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Naoma Freewill Baptist Church Naoma, WV with Rev. Danny Gilfilen officiating, followed by a private family burial at the Cantley Cemetery. The visitation will be one hour before the service. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that heaven is now even sweeter. Lucy’s love will forever echo in the memories of those she fed, held, and cherished.
