On Friday February 11, 2022, Geneva McCormick of Dry Creek passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family, friends and caring staff members at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Admired for her wisdom, her love of life, and her wit, “Nevie” made people laugh up until the last day of her long life, which began Jan. 17, 1929 when she was born in Tennessee to Myrtle and Otto Lovely. When she retired from Mt. View School as a secretary, she took up quilting at the Dry Creek Presbyterian Church with her best friends Lavon, Joy Faye, Betty and Molly. The good times and the beauty they created together will not be forgotten. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband Denver McCormick, daughter, Sandra Gilfilen and Sandra’s husband, Dale along with two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by daughter, Nancy McCormick; grandsons, Brandon and Derek Gilfilen; sister, Ann Lovely; brother, Chicken Webb; three great grandchildren: Richelle, Serenity and Harley. Along with many nieces, (nieces in law) and nephews whom she adored. Numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
