Obituary

James “Jeremy” Dickens, son, brother, and friend passed into the Father’s care on March 19, 2023 at the age of 43. Jeremy was born June 4, 1979 to James Lee and Brenda of Masseyville. He grew up there, but had resided in Huntington for the last several years. Jeremy was a person who felt life deeply, and cared for others even more deeply. He was a self-taught guitarist and keyboardist who thrived through good time and bad by escaping into his music. He enjoyed nothing more than playing with others in a “jam session” whether it be an original song, or an old hymn he had heard his entire Life growing up in church. He claimed salvation with the Lord several years back, and in a recent conversation with his family he commented on “being grounded with the Lord”. He so loved fellowship at church, or even on the streets. No doubt he is in a “Forever’ jam session just waiting for the next family member or friend to join him. Jeremy graduated from Liberty High School in 1997 where he enjoyed sports, hanging out with friends, or just being “Jeremy”. He loved riding his Harley, 4-wheeler, and riding around listening to music with his friends, he took pride in becoming a 4th generation coal miner and worked his way into the title of foreman in several local mines. In his early years of mining, he was ‘the best he could be” following in the footsteps of his dad and grandpas. Health and physical injuries took him away from the coal industry, and he devoted his life to ministering to others who had become physically, spiritually, or emotionally unable to fulfill their life’s dreams. He felt this was his calling, and did it to the best of his ability, often using his music in the process. He had earnest empathy for everyone he met, regardless of his own circumstances. Jeremy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Orville Stone, and Howard and Virginia Dickens. He is survived by his grandmother, Reba Shelton Stone; he also leaves two brothers, Aaron, and wife Renee of Masseyville, and Mitchell, and wife Katie, of Grandview. Also left are his niece Mayce, and nephews, Lucas, John, and Myles. A remembrance service will be Saturday, April 1, at Arnett Chapel, in Arnett, with visitors welcomed from 2-4 pm, followed by a fellowship service at 4pm led by Pastor Larry Kinder. This is how he would have wanted his “I’ll be waiting for you!” farewell to be. Jeremy was cremated, and his ashes will be scattered by family in places he would have enjoyed in life. A remembrance stone will be placed in the Dickens family area of Millers Cemetery at Rock Creek at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send notes of encouragement and memories of Jeremy tohis family at PO Box 17, Rock Creek, WV 25174.
