James Edward Morris of Hickory, NC passed away on 04/07/2021 at 12:30 am, from complications due to pneumonia, which was caused by Covid-19. James was born in Leevale, WV, and graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1961. After graduation, he joined the USAF, and proudly served for 21 years, earning the status of Master Sergeant, and was awarded many commendations, such as: The Air Force Commendation Medal, The Air Force Good Conduct Letter with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, The Air Force Outstanding Unit Ward, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal (Korea), NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the National Defense Service Medal. James is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Deanna Sue Wiseman Morris, of Highcoal, WV, his parents Clyde and Frankie Morris, and sisters Susie Webb, Clara Canterbury and Patsy Gwinn. He leaves behind 3 grown children: Betty Scott and husband Robert Scott, of Cleveland, GA; Melissa Kay Morris Teague, of Hickory, NC; and James Stacey Morris, of Hickory NC. Two grandchildren, Melanie Nicole McNeely, and Elysha Joanne Morris; Two great grandchildren, Arya Fae Jolley, and Raelynn Morris, a sister, Linda Morris Cottrell, and Brothers Donald Morris, Vernon Morris, Bo Morris and Robbie Morris, and many nieces, and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2:00pm in the Adkins Cemetery, Naoma, WV with Rev. Larry Kinder officiating. Armstrong Funeral Home is serving the family.
