On Saturday, October 1st, Janet Sue (Skeens) Hager, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and Christian, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and went home to be with the Lord. Born to Robert L. Skeens and Albia C. (Neely) Skeens of Seth in 1942. She was 80. She is survived by her husband Kelly (Birddog) Hager of 30 years. Janet graduated from Sherman High School in 1963. She was active in her church, the Church of Christ, in Seth, WV; and helped keep the church clean and ready for service. She loved attending and participating in church functions with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She had regular game nights with her niece, Jean and her friends Sue, Donna, Lydia and Sheila. She really enjoyed her regular shopping day on Saturday with her niece Jean. She loved birdwatching and feeding “her” wild birds and squirrels. She loved cats and always had a pet cat, or two. She loved to garden and was quite proud of her roses. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Helen Skeens of Kirbyton, WV and Fay Guthrie (Elmer) of Connecticut, and brothers Robert Skeens (Hilda) of Kirbyton, WV, Jack Skeens (Carol) of Tennessee, and Ralph Skeens (Melinda) of Prenter, WV. She is survived by her children David Atkins (Marsha) of Middleburg, FL, Deborah Droddy (Amjad) of Comfort, WV, April Lawrence of Comfort, WV and Sam Atkins (Jeannie) of Monroe, NC, daughters by marriage Kathy Carney and Patricia Hager of Ripley, WV, and her sister Judith Steenson of Rhode Island. She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her cat Blacky. She loved her family, friends, community and God. She was nurturing and had a heart of gold. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at the Seth Church of Christ Seth, WV officiated by Mike Tincher. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 6 to 8; followed by the funeral on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 beginning at 12 o’clock, Noon. Interment will follow in the Pineview Cemetery Orgas, WV.
