Jonah Ryan Shelton

Jonah Ryan Shelton, 23, of Sylvester, WV departed this life and into the arms of God (bought by the blood of Jesus) on Friday, January 8, 2021. Born on Dec. 3, 1997, he was the son of the late Kevin Shelton and Misty Canterbury-Shelton Chapman. Jonah was preceded in death by not only his father, Kevin Shelton but also a great grandmother, Margaret Dunlap, a great grandmother, Irene (Canterbury) Smith, a great Aunt Melba Hill, a great Aunt Debra Canterbury, great grandparents, Everett and Betty Akers and Emma and Alvin Shelton and his best friend, Kohlton Haney. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Misty Chapman and stepdad, Les Chapman of Sylvester; his brother, Timmy Stevens and companion, Breanna Tucker of Boomer, WV; a sister, Meagan Shelton Macleod and companion, Hunter Johnson of Clairmont, NC; a sister, Brittany Shelton of Fairdale, WV; a stepsister, Tori Arrington and husband, Brian of South Charleston, WV; 3 nephews and 2 nieces; his grandparents, Charles and Lola Shelton of Beckley, WV; a grandmother, Bernetta Canterbury of Whitesville, WV; a grandfather, Robert Canterbury of Sylvester, WV; his Uncle Calvin and Aunt Darlene Williams of Masseyville, WV; Uncle Bobby and Aunt Naoe Canterbury of Whitesville, WV; Aunt Michele and Uncle Terry Cooper of Eunice, WV; also many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends (to many to list) that he loved dearly. Jonah was an Assistant Manager at Napa Auto Parts in Nitro, WV and excelled at his job. He loved to hunt, fish, ride motorcycles and dirt bikes. He truly loved the outdoors and being with his friends. A few words on paper cannot express the Love that everyone had for Jonah or the profound impact and value he had upon our lives. All of us who were touched by his big smile, his huge bear hugs, his never failing to listen and always willing to encourage and help. Jonah was a perfect example of how to treat others in our lives. May his example become our habit. Rest In Peace My Baby Bear, Momma Bear misses and loves you so very much. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 at 1:00pm  in the Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville with Pastor Larry Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in Scarbro Cemetery Rock Creek, WV. A walk-through visitation will begin at 11:30am before the service. The pallbearers will be, Timmy Stevens, Lee Holstein, Ben Hapney, Jacob Parsons, Jacob Canterbury, Justin Canterbury, Brian Richmond, Trenton Platt and Colton Taylor. Due to COVID-19 the family requests that masks be worn, and all social distancing guidelines be observed.
