Lillian Hooker Obituary

Lillian L. Lowe Hooker of Mount Hope, WV formerly of Colcord, WV passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Stonerise Nursing Home (Harper Mills) at the age of 96.  She was born May 21, 1924 in Elkridge, WV to the late Verlie and Anna Bell Eads.  She was preceded in death by her first husband George T. Lowe, Sr., her second husband, Eugene Hooker, her son George T. Lowe, Jr., her sister Thelma (Shay) Pettry, her brother George (Giggs) Eads, and James Lowe. Survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Nancy Bryant and husband Richard of Mount Hope, son Jerry Lowe and wife Drema of Mount Hope, and two stepsons Eugene W. Hooker Jr. “Bill” of California and Lee S. Hooker of Florida.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Craig Lowe (Debbie) of Ohio, Terry (Doug) Lamb of Colcord, Stephanie (Charles) Phillips of Beaver, Deborah (Daniel) Franklin of Fayetteville, Kristie (Mike) Fox of Oak Hill, Michael (Nancy) Lowe of Mount Hope, Bellamee Lowe of Shady Spring, Ashley (Derek) Kincaid of Beckley, Carrie Cox of Rhodell, Beth (Randy) Dunn of California and Brian (Marcia) Hooker of California. Surviving great grandchildren include Sarah and Haley (Stephanie and Charles), Aubrey and Delaney (Kristie and Mike), Holli, Heather, Allie, Katrina, and Noah (Michael and Nancy), Hannah and John-Daniel (Deborah and Daniel), Drake (Terry and Doug), Thomas, Christopher and Kelsey (Craig and Debbie), Corbin (Ashley and Derek) and Steven (Brian and Marcia) and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces Susan, Gina, and Cindy and nephew, Lewis (Cookie) who loved and considered her as their second mom. Lillian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Colcord (Home School) where she served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, taught Summer Bible School, was a member of the choir and sang solos in the Christmas Pageants.  She always loved the members of the First Presbyterian Church and considered them as her second family. She was a Girl Scout leader of a Brownie troop and the administrator of the Anna Diem Scholarship Fund.  In her earlier years, she worked at Rhodes Supermarket in Mount Hope and as a waitress at Town and Country Restaurant and the Glass House in Beckley.  At one point in her life, Lillian worked at the famous BonAir Hotel in Augusta, GA.  It was here that President Dwight Eisenhower vacationed and golfed during her employment time. Lillian was a dedicated mother first and foremost.  She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them.  She especially loved her role as “grandmother” and “MawMaw Ninnie”.  She had a calming personality, always made people around her smile, and made friends everywhere she went.  Her hobbies were few and simple -family, home, and church. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon December 17, 2020 at one o’clock in the Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, WV with Pastor Jerry Pauley officiating. Interment will follow in the  Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Prosperity, WV.
