Loretta Gaye “Misses Chick” Jarrell, 77, went to be with the Lord on Wed. April 24, 2024 at Beckley Appalachian Reginal Hospital. She was born July 9, 1946 in Naoma, WV. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Irene (Cook) Canterbury. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Melba Canterbury Hill and Deborah Canterbury. She married Charles “Chickenman” “Mickey” Jarrell in 1963 in Naoma, WV. Together they had 4 children: Teresa Laachouchi, Connie Simmons, both of Michigan, Charles “Chuck” (Tara) Jarrell II of NC and Jason (Louann) Jarrell of WV. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Canterbury of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great grandsons on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She loved spending time with her family and her dog, Max. She was an amazing cook who was well known for her fried chicken. In her later years, she loved taking car rides with her husband and Max in Hoo Hoo Hollow looking for deer. She was a Christian and a member of Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church and will be deeply missed by many family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV with Pastor Houston Lafferty officiating. Interment will follow in the Chickenman and Misses Chick’s Family Cemetery, Dry Creek, WV. The visitation will be Monday, April 29, 2024 from 6-9 at the funeral home.
