Marvin “Buddy” Edward Hall, 74, of Whitesville, WV passed away on October 20, 2025. Marvin was born on December 28, 1950, to Arthur and Kathrine Hall of Sundial, WV. He graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1969 and shortly thereafter proudly served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, Marvin brought the same sense of pride, discipline, and strong work ethic back home to West Virginia, where he began a 43-year career in coal mining. He retired as Mine Foreman for Alpha Natural Resources at Hunter Peerless in Sylvester, WV. On June 22, 1974, Marvin married the love of his life, Greta Laverne (Smith) Hall, at Pettus Baptist Church in Pettus, WV. Together they shared 51 years of marriage built on love, respect and loyalty. Marvin will be remembered most for his love and dedication to his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving Papaw. A quiet man by nature, he led by example- steadfast, hardworking, and honest in all he did. Though stubborn and hard-headed at times, he balanced those traits with a big heart, unwavering loyalty, and a steady, dependable presence. He found peace and joy in the outdoors, especially while hunting and fishing-pastimes that reflected his patience and appreciation for life’s simple moments. Whether in the woods of Pocahontas County chasing the next “Buckzilla” or sitting by the water’s edge for just a while, those were the places that brought him the greatest happiness and peace. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Greta (Smith) Hall of Whitesville; his children- daughter, Christy Hall of Hurricane, WV; daughter, Leslie and husband, Rodney Duncan of Dorothy, WV; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Mike Skrajner of Bolivar, OH; and son, Justin and wife, Chasity Hall of Glen Daniel, WV. Marvin was the proud Papaw of seven grandchildren: Sydney (Duncan) and husband, Josh Pugh of Layland; Skylar Duncan and companion, Gabe Dixon of Layland; Brennan Duncan of Whitesville; Chase Hall of Dorothy; Wyatt Hall of Hurricane; and Reese and Rhett Hall of Glen Daniel. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Kandace, Katie, and Brynlee Pugh and Harper Dixon. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Boone Memorial Park Madison, WV. with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Armstrong Funeral Home is serving the family.
