Mike Gordon

On Friday, July 12th Mike Gordon finished his race here on earth. Born April 13, 1958, he was the youngest of four boys to the late Herbert and Francis Gordon.  He was a retired coal miner of 40+ years, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a faithful and devoted Christian. He was always willing to help out a friend or neighbor anytime someone needed something. He loved his family more than anything. No matter where he went, he would always see someone that he knew, whether it was someone he worked with, someone he played ball with or went to school with. He remembered their names, where he knew them from, what year or what team they played for. He loved to be out in the woods, whether it was hunting season or not, there was always something to be done to get ready for it. Anyone that knew him would say he was a “good man”. He loved the Lord and was never afraid to tell it.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Francis (Howerton) Gordon. Brothers: Herbert “Herbie” Gordon Jr, Joe Gordon, wife Kay, and Timmy Gordon.  Father-in-law Donnie Holsten, Sister-in-law Angie Holsten. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Tammy. Sons:  Brandon of St. Albans, WV and Joshua (April) of Mount Perry, OH; Grandchildren: Brooke and Eli. Mother-in-law: Noble Holsten (Whitesville). Extended family: Betty Gordon (Bloomingrose), Jenny and Greg Elswick (Orgas), Donna and Mitch Clay (Georgia), Steve Holsten (Whitesville). Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Special friends that he considered family: Pastor Gary and Ina Williams, Matt, Amber, Hannah Grace, Jedidiah, Isaiah, Elijah, his church family, hunting buddies, and his Garage Buddies.  As well as his faithful companions:  Jasper and Ruby. His message to everyone was the quote by Reverend Billy Graham that said, “One of these days you will hear that Mike Gordon has died, don’t you believe a word of it! I am more alive now than I have ever been.” Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Pineview Cemetery Orgas, WV. The visitation will be Thursday, July 18, 2024, form 6-9 at the funeral home.
