Raymond Leigh Cottrell

Raymond Leigh Cottrell, 72, of Orgas, WV passed away on February 21, 2023 after a short illness.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and Thelma "Pal" Cottrell; sister, Gilda Harris; son, Bryan Leigh Cottrell. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force with a ranking of Sergeant and served overseas in the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic. A lifelong truck driver, he retired from Estes Express Lines. He enjoyed fishing, "porch meetings" with family and friends, and watching his grandchildren in their various activities. His sense of humor and love for his family will be greatly missed. Ray is survived by his wife of 21 years, Nila Cottrell ; daughter, Courtney (Jason) Ballard of Ashford, WV ; brother, Roger  (Wilda) Cottrell of Orgas, WV; brother-in-law, Mike Harris of Horse Creek, WV ; brother-in-law , Calvin (Pam) Doss of Ripley, WV; brother-in-law, David Doss of Dalton, GA; brother-in- law Leon Adkins of Fosterville, WV;  special cousin, Vickie Wallace of Youngstown, OH ; three grandchildren that were papaw's babies, Jacey Ballard, Jaxson Ballard, and Jett Ballard. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Armstrong Funeral Home in Whitesville, WV with Ray's beloved great-nephew Rev. Jacob Riley officiating and the Stewart Family singing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pineview Cemetery in Orgas, WV with military rites by Madison VFW Post 5578.
