Jesus answered him.. Truly I tell you today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43
Our most loved husband, dad, and pawpaw, Robert “Bob” Lee Shelton passed through Heaven’s gate on June 6 to receive his crown. Oh, how the Heavens rejoiced!! Bob was born on April 13, 1933. He grew up in Rock Creek and spent the remainder of his life in Arnett. There's not 1 person from the area that didn’t know Bob. He worked the coal mines and timber industry. He was very respected in the community. Bob enjoyed attending different churches, but his heart was at Arnett Chapel. He loved his church family there. Bob never met a stranger and loved spreading the word of God through music. He wrote his own songs and set them to music. He traveled to churches and hospitals to sing and pray. His favorite singing partners and dear friends, Doug and Shelby Alderman spent many an evening listening to Bob’s new music. Bob was an avid bowler and last remaining original member of the Winding Gulf League at Leisure Lanes. He also enjoyed golfing with his brothers and grandsons. He was a history buff and bluegrass fan. He would travel anywhere to walk a Civil War battlefield or attend a bluegrass festival. So many of his family were waiting for him in Heaven. His parents, Alvin Lee and Emma Elizabeth; brothers: Arthur, John Paul, and Tim; sister, Helen and sister-in-law, Julie; nieces and nephews, Timmy, Kevin, and Christy; and one very precious great grandson waiting to play with pawpaw, Liam Ezra Spencer. Those left to remember and miss him daily his wife of 51 years, Betty; daughters, Joy and companion, Eddie and Melody and husband, Billy; grandkids: Holly and husband, Justin, Katelynn, Second Class Petty Officer, Ricky Spencer and his wife, Whitney, Hannah, Clay and Third Class Petty Officer, Dylan Basham; great grandkids: Garon, Rhett, Asher, and Lincoln; brothers and best friends, Charley and Jerry; sisters, Reba and Betty; and so many more family members he loved dearly. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 2:00 in the Arnett Chapel with Pastor Donnie Russell and Pastor Doug Alderman officiating. Interment will follow in the Scarbro Cemetery in Rock Creek. The visitation will be 2 hours before the service. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations sent to SECU Family House that made it possible for us to be with Bob and not worry about having a place to stay. Very wonderful people.
