Rodney G. Ferrell, a born-again Christian, 79, of Whitesville, WV, passed on to his Heavenly home on January 8, 2025, after a long illness. He was born to the late Sterling “Joe” and Beulah Todd Ferrell on May 30, 1945, in White Oak Hollow at Orgas, WV. In addition to his parents, Rod was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 47 years, Carolyn “Jessica” Legg Ferrell; sons Kevin and Darrin Ferrell; sister Norma Ferrell Stover; and brothers Jack and Jerry Ferrell. Rod worked for several years at Carbide in Charleston, WV, and worked as a coal miner at Ellis Creek mine for Armco and then Peabody Coal Company. He finished his career working for the State as a core driller before becoming disabled and retiring. Rod loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, especially with his son Kevin and grandsons Caleb and Jacob while living in Renick, WV. Those left to cherish memories of Rod include his grandson Caleb (Caitlin); granddaughter Nicole (Travis); Melissa Ferrell (Billy) and grandson Jacob, who was a special blessing sent by God; brother Leroy (Penny) Ferrell; sisters Violet (Danny) Pettit; and Loretta (Larry) Kinder; and a host of nieces and nephews. Rod is also survived by brother-in-law Billy Stover and sisters-in-law Sharlon Ferrell and Debbie Ferrell. Rod had a very close lifelong friend, Ella Martin of Chesapeake, VA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Honoring Rod’s wishes, music will be provided by brother-in-law Danny Pettit, and brother-in-law Rev. Larry Kinder will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pineview Cemetery Orgas, WV.
