Roger Dale Pettry ,74, of Pratt, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 after a courageous battle with a long illness. He was born February 25, 1946 to the late Rosetta Pettry in Summers County, WV. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Rosetta; paternal grandparents, Fred and Myrtle Pettry and many more loved ones. Roger was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, where he played football for the Wildcats. After high school he joined the U.S. Army, serving the 25th Infantry Division in Saigon, Vietnam during 1967-68, and was later honorably discharged. He was a retired truck driver from Roadway Express and Smith Transfer, during this time he drove 2 million miles accident and injury free- one of his proudest accomplishments, and a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Roger is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shila Pettry; a daughter, DJ (Clay) of Ohio; his sons, Donald (Chris) of Pratt, WV and Roger (Brooke) of Pratt; brothers, Clarence “Babe” (Judy) of Arnett, WV, Fred (Lorretta) Moore of Arnett, WV; sisters: Margaret Khalil of Cleveland, OH, Angela Syrp of Cleveland, OH, Kathy (Ralph) Segner of Ohio, Debra (Phillip) Williams of Pratt and Sharon (Mike) Combs of S.C.; grandchildren: Sarah, Megan, Carter, Peyton, Brodie, Paislee Pettry and Skylar. The family would like to thank the Kanawha Valley Emergency Ambulance Authority, Fresenius Kidney Care with special emphasis to Kim and his home health nurse, Chelsey. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 30, 2020 at 2:00 in the Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, WV with Rev. Clay Baldwin officiating.
