Shelby Dean Bone (known as Dean), age 86, of Dry Creek, WV, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Dean was born on Oct. 14, 1937, in Dry Creek, WV to Sheridan and Dora Bone. He graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1956 and went on to work at Ford Motor Company in Akron, Ohio. He was drafted into the US Army for 2 years and stationed at several locations, including the DMZ, South Korea. After completing his military duties, he moved to Columbus, Ohio and worked several jobs before returning to Dry Creek, WV to assist his mother and father in their later years. Dean was a musician, song writer, and storyteller who loved his family and friends around Dry Creek. He loved to play music with his friends, write songs about bible stories and the beauty of WV, work in his garden and attend several churches in the area. He often said that his spiritual gift was writing and playing Christian songs on the various instruments he played. He was also very thrifty with his money but gave freely to those in need. Dean was preceded in death by his parents – Sheridan and Dora Bone, one son, Roy Dennis Bone, and his older brother, James E Bone. He is survived by his son, Rascal Pruitt of Lancaster, OH, four sisters – Melba Asbury of Ruckersville, VA, Patsy Harper of Dunbar, WV, Esther Adkins of Buckeye, AZ, and Peggy Bailey of Lewisville, AR; two brothers – David of Dry Creek, WV, and Dennis (Denise) of Fort Myers, FL. Dean is also survived by two grandchildren – Eric Sheridan Bone and Elisha Renee Bone as well as many nephews, nieces, and other extended family members. A family visitation service will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023 at 5:00pm at Armstrong Funeral Home, followed by a public visitation at 6:00pm and a Memorial service will follow immediately at 7:00pm with the family officiating. Another brief Memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park at 10:30 Friday November 10, 2023 located at 1925 Harper Road, Beckley, WV. The family asks that no flowers be brought. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a church or charity of your choice. Armstrong Funeral Home, 39687 Coal River Road, Whitesville, WV, is in charge of arrangements.
