Stephen Wayne Pettry, 71 years old, of Rock Creek, WV, entered into Heaven on October 21, 2023. He was the son of the late Sidney Pettry and Doris (Faulk) Pettry of Naoma, WV. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene (Canterbury) Pettry; daughters: Lisa Cole of Naoma and Amy (Antonio) Jackson of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren: David Cole, Megan Cole, Hailey Cole, Dakota Cole, and Aidan Jackson; great grandchildren: Ledger Cole, Jocelyn Martin, and Khloe Gilbert; brothers: Sidney (Linda) Pettry of Naoma and David (Tammy) Pettry of North Carolina; and a sister, Donna Workman of Naoma. Besides his parents, Stephen was proceeded in death by a sister, Karen Gunnoe; a niece, Regina Pettry; grandparents, Cecil and Vivetta Faulk and Burl and Lora (Granny) Pettry. Stephen was a member and Deacon of the Gospel Lighthouse in Sundial, where he loved to serve others with a gracious heart. He worked as a fabricator for Ferno in Washington Court House, OH and mastered the skill of being a carpenter when he returned to West Virginia in 1981. Special thank you to David Bartoli and Roland Canterbury, whom he considered brothers; WVU Oncology, Dr. Boone’s office; Stefanie Williams, RN at Raleigh General Hospital; and Lydia Blevins and Savanna Hatfield, who he adopted into the family as his daughters. If Steve could have one last thing to say to his family or friends, it would be this: Don’t weep for me when I’m gone; don’t cry for me I’m not alone; I’ve fought the fight; I’ve won the race; I’m home at last; I have kept the faith (thank you Christian). Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Sundial, WV with Pastor Zack Pandelios officiating and Heather Peters singing. Interment will follow in the Scarbro Cemetery Rock Creek, WV. The visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Bowers Hospice House, WVU Rosenbaum Family House, or to the Bread of Life Outreach Center.
